DIATOMITE

Diatomite

Diatomite is a rock composed of clay, sand, volcanic ash and other organic residues, as well as diatomite skeletons, a single-celled algae species living in shallow depths where photosynthesis occurs intensely in fresh and salt water reservoirs in regions where volcanic activities are high. Specific gravity in dry state is 0.15-0.40. g / cm3. Although the opal hardness is between 4.5-6.0, the hardness of the rock is not more than 1.5. They can absorb water up to 3 times their weight. Their melting point varies between 1000-1500 ° depending on their content.Diatomites are resistant to many chemicals, but they are affected by strong bases at high temperatures. With their low density, medium refractoriness, high absorption capacity, friability to small particle size and high surface area value, they find the opportunity to be used in many different fields of industry.
Diatomites used for industrial purposes are classified as Natural Diatomite, Calcined diatomite, White Calcined diatomite.
Diatomite products can be used in many areas as filter aid material, filling material, insulation (heat, sound, electricity) material, absorbant, abrasive, catalyst carrier, light building material, refractory material, and regulator in fertilizers.
